SECURITY IN PAKISTAN & IRAN

The Iranian and Pakistani Authorities are forcibly deporting hundreds of thousands of Afghans back into the hands of the Taliban. The Pakistani Authorities are refusing to renew Visas. They are conducting raids in District B-17. Whilst keeping under cover, it would be wise to avoid this district.

Please be aware that the Taliban can read ordinary emails from and to Afghanistan. They can also read WhatsApp messages. The communications lines mainly go through Russia. Far safer is to use the Signal mobile App and Proton which are highly encrypted. This also speaks to the Taliban’s predilection for cutting communications. There are reports of their plans to cut communications again shortly.

If you are in refuge abroad, we advise you to lock your social media accounts and delete your messages as a precaution.

This post highlights the worsening humanitarian and security situation faced by Afghan refugees in Pakistan and Iran. The forced deportations risk returning vulnerable people, including women and children, to Taliban persecution. The mention of raids and visa refusals shows increasing pressure on Afghans who sought safety abroad. The advice to use encrypted communication apps like Signal and Proton is crucial, given the Taliban’s surveillance capabilities and history of cutting off communication networks. Refugees must prioritize digital security and personal safety. The situation underscores the urgent need for international attention, protection measures, and humane policies toward displaced Afghan communities.
